Connecting Assessments Through the Arts

Today, we’re going to take a look at the PARCC sample assessment prototypes and find out how the Arts can find their elegant fit in these areas. Please keep in mind that these are suggestions at this point and there is a great possibility of changes happening here. However, what I find so exciting in the structure of these assessments is the direct connection to how the Arts provide critique in each of their areas. Let’s dig in!

Arts Turnaround Schools

The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education and the White House Domestic Policy Council, created a new public-private partnership, Turnaround Arts. This initiative is designed to narrow the achievement gap and increase student engagement through the arts. Turnaround: Arts will work in eight “turnaround schools” throughout the country.
